Nashville: here I am

I drove to Nashville today. I got a late start and had a meltdown en route, but I got through it and felt quite a bit of peace on the rest of the drive. After Cookeville, the air was noticeably cooler and pleasant, and I had Van Morrison and my trusty Nalgene to accompany me.

And now I'm at Breanna's place. At first glance, the complex isn't what you'd call glamorous, but I like it. There are children everywhere, an ice cream truck that's still playing at least one Christmas tune (Hark! The Herald Angels Sing), and birds are chirping. Every few minutes, I can hear an airplane fly overhead. On my first trip up the stairs with luggage, etc., someone behind me said, "You must be staying with Breanna!" Thus, I met her neighbor, Dave, who asked if we're sisters. All in all, quite a welcome. And now I sit in her apartment listening to children play outside, enjoying that boisterous noise that's curiously calming and grounding me.

I love the way you describe my complex...some of that stuff is why I'm so happy where I am, despite the fact that I haven't finished painting, and the fact that I don't have kitchen chairs yet, etc. The kids, particularly, are how I knew I would be okay there--that ice cream man makes a killing, day after day!

Just wait until it's not threatening to rain anymore...all the cooking smells will start to come out, which is something else I think you'll like :) Almost every day when I come home, you can smell the different families cooking their respective dinners--the older black woman on the other side of the building roasting her pork and stewing her greens; the mexican (possibly central american) family downstairs on the front side seasoning their sopapillas or whatever they're having for dinner that night. It's surprisingly welcoming and comforting!

Oh yeah, AND I get a Moogy in my place. What's not to like?

Are you moving in with Breanna? or just visiting? if you're moving in, it seems like Nashville is THE PLACE TO BE this summer! :-)
